Course Play Major Update

With this release, the Course Play engine has transitioned to Unreal Engine 5.8, bringing upgraded visuals, customizable turf physics, scalable graphics settings, and six new competitive play modes.

Here is what is included in the latest update:

Graphics, Atmosphere & Performance

  • Dynamic Weather & Moisture: Dial in cloud cover, fog, and rain. Course surfaces and ball rollout dynamically adjust to wet and dry conditions.

  • Lighting & Time of Day: Full control over the sun's position from morning light to sunset, with volumetric fog and accurate shadow casting.

  • Live Seasons: Switch between seasonal canopy looks and lighting profiles instantly.

  • Visual Polish: Upgraded environmental assets and wind-responsive flag animations.

  • Scalable Graphics Settings: Comprehensive visual presets and performance toggles allow you to dial in the balance of detail and framerate so the simulation runs smoothly across a wide range of PC hardware.

Ground & Green Physics

  • Adjustable Firmness: Customize fairway and green firmness independently to simulate everything from soft parkland turf to firm, fast links conditions.

  • Redesigned Cups & Flags: Updated physics for realistic pin collisions, lip-outs, and cup drops.

  • Enhanced Green Grids: Sharper contour lines for reading subtle breaks and undulations.

  • Customizable Gimme Circles: Set preferred gimme radiuses to match your pace of play.

  • Multi-Tee Options: Courses now generate with estimated Back, Middle, and Forward tee boxes.

6 New Game Formats

Dedicated scoring and rules logic for multiplayer and practice sessions:

  • Match Play: Head-to-head competition where each hole is played for an individual point, won by the lowest score on that hole.

  • Skins: Each hole carries an assigned point value. If two or more players tie for low score, the value carries over to increase the stakes on the next hole.

  • Scramble: Team members all hit from the tee, choose the best shot, and everyone hits their next shot from that spot until the ball is holed.

  • Best Ball: Each golfer plays their own ball throughout the round, and the team takes the lowest single score among its players on each hole.

  • Stableford: Point-based scoring awarded relative to par (e.g., points for bogeys, pars, birdies, and eagles), rewarding aggressive play without round-killing blowout holes.

  • Alternate Shot: Two-player partners hit one ball in alternating sequence from tee to green until holed.

Navigation & Interface

  • Interactive 3D Globe: Search, browse, and locate courses worldwide using an intuitive 3D globe interface.

  • Faster Caching & Search: Resolved caching bottlenecks so newly mapped courses load and index significantly faster.

  • Reversible Bay Layout: Toggle your telemetry data and mini-map between the left and right sides of the screen to accommodate your bay setup and camera angles.

Real Satellite & Elevation Data—Built for Scale

Real Satellite & Elevation Data—Built for Scale

We believe you shouldn't have to wait months for a 3D artist to handcraft your local track. ShotForge pulls real-world 1-meter LiDAR elevation(if available), satellite imagery, and open-source golf map outlines to turn raw geospatial coordinates into a playable golf hole in seconds.

The trade-off is simple: automated data isn't hand-sculpted perfection. A tree line might not match yesterday’s pruning, and satellite outlines can occasionally misread a cart path or water hazard line. But the core terrain elevation, real distances, and target shapes are genuine—delivering a fast, authentic round on the courses you actually want to play.
